Running MxGuard as a parallel secondary MX before cutover

dan_n 03 Jul 2026, 12:30

You don't have to switch your mail over to MxGuard in one risky step. You can run it alongside your existing filter first and watch it work.

Parallel testing: 1. Add and verify your domain, and configure the forwarding destination. 2. Add MxGuard as a lower-priority (higher number) MX alongside your current filter. Some of your mail will flow through MxGuard while the rest continues via your existing route. 3. Watch the live feed at the console to see MxGuard's verdicts on real mail, with Claude's written reasoning.

Cutover: when you are happy, make mx1.mxguard.uk (priority 10) and mx2.mxguard.uk (priority 20) your primary MX records and lower your old filter's priority. Keep the old system running as a backup MX for one to two weeks before decommissioning it. Most cutovers, including the observation window, complete inside two days.
