SIP proxy, ports and codecs for provisioning
Whether you connect a PBX trunk or register handsets directly, the platform details are the same:
- SIP server / proxy:
sip.transcom.net - Ports: 5060 for UDP, 5061 for TLS (encrypted signalling)
- Codecs: G.711u (PCMU) for best quality, G.729 to save bandwidth, and G.722 for HD wideband audio
- Authentication: your account user ID and password
Across a busy twenty-five-channel deployment, G.729 can significantly reduce bandwidth if your internet connection is a constraint, while G.711u gives the cleanest audio where bandwidth allows. Most PBXs and phones will negotiate automatically from the list of codecs you allow.
