Connecting an analogue phone with an ATA adapter
If you have a traditional analogue phone you want to keep, an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter) bridges it onto your Free SIP Account. Supported adapters include the Grandstream HandyTone range, Cisco/Linksys units and Poly ATAs.
- Connect the ATA to your network, and plug your analogue phone into the ATA's FXS/phone port.
- Open the ATA's web admin page (check the label or manual for its default address).
- On the line settings enter the SIP proxy
sip.transcom.net, your user ID and password, and register port 5060/5061. - Save and reboot the ATA.
Pick up the analogue handset — you should get a dial tone from FreeVoIP. This is a low-cost way to give an existing cordless base or a much-loved desk phone a second life on VoIP.
