Your SIP connection details: server, ports and codecs
Every Free SIP Account registers against the same carrier-grade platform, so the connection details are simple and consistent across all devices.
What you need to register:
- SIP server / proxy / domain: sip.transcom.net
- User ID: your FreeVoIP username
- Password: your account password
Ports: - 5060 for standard UDP signalling - 5061 for TLS (encrypted signalling)
Supported audio codecs: - G.711u (µ-law / PCMU) - G.729a - G.722 (HD wideband) - GSM
Most softphones and IP phones will negotiate the best available codec automatically. G.711u gives the most compatible, best-quality audio on a good connection; G.729a uses less bandwidth if you are tight on capacity. Media encryption is not required and is disabled by default on our recommended MicroSIP profile. If you ever need to check that a device has registered correctly, use the built-in test numbers described in our device how-to articles.
