Connecting Managed Email to any device with IMAP and SMTP
Managed Email uses the two standard mail protocols every mainstream app understands, so it works with whatever your team already uses.
IMAP is how apps read mail. Messages live on the server and each device shows a synced copy — read something on a phone and it shows as read on the laptop, file it into a folder and that folder appears everywhere. Nothing is trapped on one device, and because the master copy stays on the server, a lost or broken device never means lost mail. With unlimited storage there's no need to move mail off the server, so IMAP is the natural choice.
SMTP is how apps send mail. Your device hands the message to the outgoing server, which authenticates the sender and delivers it through your correctly-configured SPF and DKIM so it lands well at the far end.
Because both are open standards, Managed Email connects to Outlook, Apple Mail, the Gmail app, Thunderbird and the rest, plus webmail in any browser. We provide the exact settings for each mailbox and configure devices for you on request.
