Keeping your Business Email account secure
Your mailbox is the key to a lot — password resets for other services often go through email — so it's worth keeping secure. A few sensible habits:
- Use a strong, unique password. Don't reuse a password from another site. A long passphrase you can remember beats a short complicated one you have to write down. A password manager makes this painless.
- Keep it to yourself. Transcom staff will never ask you for your mailbox password. Anyone who does is trying to trick you.
- Watch for phishing. Business Email's MxGuard filtering stops a great deal of phishing, but no filter is perfect. Be wary of any message asking you to 'confirm' your password or urgently click a link — when in doubt, don't click, and ask us.
- Log out of shared computers. If you use webmail on a borrowed or public machine, log out and close the browser afterwards.
If you ever think your password has been exposed, contact us and change it straight away — because outbound mail passes through MxGuard, we can also help make sure nothing was sent in your name.
