Backwards compatibility with the older DAC/EPP method
The current engine is a complete rewrite for Nominet's time-release process, but it has not dropped support for the older approach — it remains compatible with the older DAC/EPP method.
This matters in two ways. First, if you catch at registries that still use the traditional DAC/EPP drop rather than a scheduled time-release, the same engine handles them. Second, if you already own the older SSH software, you are upgrading to a tool that still does everything the old one did, plus the new time-release features — nothing you relied on is lost.
One engine therefore covers both drop models, old and new.
