L2TP, IPSEC and PPP: the protocols your VPN supports
Hybrid VPN uses standard, widely-supported VPN protocols — L2TP, IPSEC and PPP — rather than a proprietary app you must install.
The practical benefit is compatibility: L2TP/IPSEC is built directly into Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, so you connect using the operating system's own VPN client with no third-party software. You simply enter your server address, username, password and the pre-shared key from your provisioning email. IPSEC provides the encryption that keeps the tunnel private, while PPP support covers older or specialised clients. Because these are open standards, your Hybrid VPN also works with routers and appliances that speak L2TP/IPSEC, letting you connect an entire site rather than a single device.
