What SmartDNS does not do: encryption and privacy limits
It is worth being clear about SmartDNS's scope so you choose the right tool. SmartDNS is built for one job — unlocking geo-restricted streaming at full speed — and it does this by re-routing only DNS lookups for geo-sensitive domains.
What it deliberately does not do:
- It does not encrypt your traffic. Your connection is not tunnelled, so SmartDNS is not a privacy or security tool.
- It does not hide or change your main IP address. Your real IP is still visible to sites you visit.
- It is not intended for anonymity, torrenting or bypassing network-level censorship.
We keep no logs of your browsing and store no query history, so your usage stays private on our side. But if you specifically need encryption, IP masking, a static IP or full-tunnel VPN capabilities, that is what our Hybrid VPN + SmartDNS plan is for — it adds a genuine encrypted VPN on your own dedicated server on top of the SmartDNS unlocking.
