How do I check that Deep Packet Filter is working?
Once you've changed your DNS to Deep Packet Filter (DPF), here are simple ways to confirm it's active.
Quick checks:
- Browse a few sites you use regularly — adverts, pop-ups and video pre-rolls should be noticeably reduced or gone.
- On a Smart TV or router, run the built-in network test after saving the DNS settings to confirm the connection is working.
- Notice pages loading faster, as your devices no longer wait on ad and tracking servers.
Test your speed: you can measure your connection using the speed test at fastapn.com/btest.html before and after enabling DPF to see the difference on your link.
Nothing seems to have changed?
- Double-check you entered both the primary and secondary DNS addresses correctly.
- Remember that per-device settings only cover the device (and on phones, the specific Wi-Fi network) you edited — set DNS on the router to cover everything.
- Some devices cache DNS results; reconnecting to the network or restarting the device clears this.
