The SS-4G compute tier: extra cores for parallel work
The SS series shifts the balance towards CPU. The SS-4G — £15.00/month gives you 4 vCPU with 4 GB RAM and 80 GB NVMe.
Compare that with the HA-4G (also 4 GB RAM, but 2 vCPU): for a couple of pounds more the SS-4G doubles the core count while keeping the same memory and disk. That makes it the right pick when your workload is compute-bound and parallel rather than memory-bound:
- Build and CI runners
- Media transcoding and image processing
- Concurrent request handling where each request is cheap on memory but wants a core
- Simulations, batch jobs and number-crunching
The extra cores let the operating system spread concurrent work across more threads, so throughput climbs on jobs that would otherwise queue behind two cores. All four vCPU are dedicated KVM resources, so you get the cores you paid for. Unlimited bandwidth, IPv4 and IPv6, full root, free backups and DDoS protection are included as standard.
