How SmartDNS works: DNS interception and SNI proxy technology

When you access a geo-restricted site, your device first performs a DNS lookup to translate the domain name into an IP address. SmartDNS intercepts only those DNS queries for geo-sensitive domains and returns responses that route the connection through our UK proxy infrastructure.

We use SNI (Server Name Indication) proxy technology. This means the streaming service sees a valid connection originating from the correct region, without any VPN tunnel, encryption overhead or IP masking of your main connection.

Crucially, only the DNS handshake for geo-sensitive domains passes through our servers. All other traffic on your device is completely unaffected and continues to use your normal connection.

Because SmartDNS works purely at the DNS layer, there is no app to install and no tunnel to maintain. You change two DNS addresses and everything works transparently in the background.
