WHOIS Privacy at Transcom: an overview

When you register a domain, your contact details — name, address, email and phone — can be recorded in the public WHOIS directory, where anyone (and any spam bot) can look them up. WHOIS Privacy keeps those personal details out of the public record.

Transcom offers free registrant privacy on eligible TLDs. Instead of your details, the public WHOIS shows privacy-protected or proxy contact information, while you remain the true legal registrant behind the scenes. You still own the domain outright; you're simply not broadcasting your home address to the world.

What privacy protects you from: - Spam and scrapers harvesting your email and phone from WHOIS - Unsolicited sales calls and fake renewal scams - Doxxing / exposure of a home address on a personal domain

Because different registries have different rules, privacy availability varies by extension. Many gTLDs (.com, .net, .org) support a privacy service, and .uk registrants who are individuals not trading can opt to have their address withheld under Nominet's own rules.
