Owning an aftermarket name: renewals and registrant rights

When you buy a premium name you become its legal registrant — the domain is registered in your name, not leased to you. From that point it behaves exactly like any name you register fresh.

A few practical points about aftermarket ownership: - Renewals are billed at the standard registry price for that TLD, not a premium — the premium is a one-off purchase price, not a recurring markup. - You get full DNS control and can point the name at any host, email provider or parking page. - You can transfer the name away later, subject to the usual registry rules (for gTLDs, a 60-day lock applies after a change of registrant or an inbound transfer). - For .uk names, you control the IPS tag and can move to another Nominet registrar at any time.

In short: you buy it once, then own it outright and renew it like any other domain.
