WHOIS privacy on the old registrar blocked the transfer email

Transfer kept failing and it took ages to work out the registry couldn't reach my registrant email because privacy was proxying it at the old registrar. Once I disabled privacy there it worked. Could the transfer wizard warn about this up front?
