FAQ: transfer questions we get asked a lot
Will my website or email go down? No — a transfer doesn't touch DNS. Keep your nameservers the same and there's zero downtime.
Do I lose the time left on my registration? No. For most gTLDs a transfer adds a year on top of your remaining term. For .uk, the tag change keeps your existing expiry date.
How long does it take? gTLDs: about 5–7 days. .uk: minutes to a few hours.
Why does the registry keep emailing me? That's the authorisation step — you must approve the transfer for it to proceed. Ignoring it stalls everything.
Can I transfer an expired domain? Usually not — renew it first.
I just registered/transferred it recently — why won't it move? The 60-day ICANN lock blocks another transfer within 60 days.
Do .uk domains need an EPP code? No — .uk uses an IPS tag change instead. There's no code to fetch.
Can you do the whole thing for me? We handle the registry side and will guide you through the bits only your old registrar can do (unlock, auth code, tag).
