How to prepare a domain so the transfer doesn't fail

Most failed transfers are avoidable. Before you start, at your current registrar:

  1. Unlock the domain (remove clientTransferProhibited / the transfer lock).
  2. Disable WHOIS privacy temporarily if it hides the registrant email.
  3. Check the registrant email is valid and monitored — the registry will email it to authorise the move.
  4. Confirm the domain isn't within 60 days of registration, a prior transfer, or a registrant change — gTLD registries block transfers in that window.
  5. Make sure it isn't expired or in redemption — renew it first if so.
  6. Get a fresh auth code just before starting.

Then start the transfer at Transcom. Doing all six up front means the transfer usually sails through on the first attempt. Leave your nameservers unchanged until after it completes so nothing goes dark.
