How long a transfer takes and how to track it
Timings depend on the TLD:
- gTLDs (.com/.net/.org etc.) — typically 5–7 days. The registry gives the losing registrar up to 5 days to approve; if they don't act, it auto-approves. You can often speed this up by explicitly approving the transfer at your old registrar.
- .uk — usually minutes to a few hours once the IPS tag is changed, because there's no approval window.
- Other ccTLDs — vary; some are instant, some take days.
Every in-flight transfer shows a status in the panel: awaiting auth code, submitted to registry, pending losing-registrar approval, or completed. We also email you at the key milestones, including the registry's authorisation request — act on that email promptly, as ignoring it is the most common cause of slow transfers.
If a transfer stalls beyond the expected window, contact support with the domain name and we'll chase the registry.
