Will my website and email keep working during a transfer?
Yes — a transfer does not touch your DNS. This is the single most misunderstood thing about transfers.
Changing registrar (who manages the domain) is completely separate from changing DNS (where the domain points). As long as your nameservers stay the same through the transfer, your website and email carry on exactly as before, with no downtime.
To keep things safe:
- Don't change nameservers or DNS records at the same time as transferring. Move first, then change DNS once the domain is settled in your account.
- If you are also moving your DNS to Transcom, recreate all your DNS records here first, verify them, and only then switch nameservers — after the transfer completes.
- Note the 60-day rule: gTLD registries block a domain from being transferred again within 60 days of a previous transfer or a registrant change. This doesn't affect DNS, only your ability to transfer out.
If you're unsure, our support team will review your current DNS before you start so nothing is lost.
