Transferring .uk domains: the IPS tag

Unlike .com, .uk domains don't use an auth/EPP code. Nominet moves a .uk domain by changing its registrar 'tag' (the IPS tag) — a short identifier that says which registrar controls the name.

To bring a .uk domain to Transcom:

1. Log in to your current registrar (or Nominet directly) and change the domain's IPS tag to Transcom's tag (support will give you the exact tag to use).
2. Once the tag points to us, the domain appears in your Transcom account, usually within minutes to a few hours.
3. There's no registry email confirmation dance and, for many .uk transfers, no fee — you keep the existing expiry date rather than adding a year (a .uk 'transfer' is just a tag change, not a renewal).

To move a .uk out of Transcom, you (or the gaining registrar) ask us to release the tag to their tag. Because it's just a tag change, .uk transfers are typically the quickest and simplest of all.
