Troubleshooting: my domain resolves but the website won't load
If a freshly registered domain 'isn't working', work through this:
- Check it's registered and active — confirm the domain shows as Active in the panel with a future expiry date.
- Check the DNS records exist — under DNS, is there an A record for
@(andwww) pointing at the right IP? A domain with no A record has nowhere to send visitors. - Check propagation — if you only just added the records, allow time for the TTL to expire on caching resolvers. Test with
dig yourdomain +shortor an external DNS checker rather than your own possibly-cached machine. - Check the nameservers — the domain must be using our nameservers (or wherever your DNS actually lives). If you changed nameservers, they too take time to propagate.
- Rule out the destination — does the target IP actually serve the site? Try loading the site by IP.
If all of that checks out and it's still down, contact support with the domain name and what you're seeing.
