Registrant contacts, ownership and locks

When you register, four contact roles are recorded: registrant (the legal owner), admin, technical and billing. For most customers these are all the same person or organisation, but they can differ.

The registrant is the one that matters legally — it's who owns the domain. Because Transcom always registers in your name, you are the registrant, not us.

Two protections guard your ownership:

• Registrar lock (clientTransferProhibited) — prevents the domain being transferred away without you first unlocking it. On by default for eligible TLDs.
• Registrant change controls — changing the registrant on a gTLD can trigger a 60-day transfer lock under ICANN rules, so we confirm such changes with you before making them.

Keep your contact details current: registries (especially Nominet for .uk) can suspend a domain whose contact data is invalid or unverified. You can update contacts at any time from the panel.
