Inside the email service audit
Mail services are one of the most attacked and most misconfigured parts of any server, so they get close attention during a Server Security Analysis.
We examine your mail server's configuration and its exposure to the internet, looking at areas such as:
- Whether the server acts as an open relay — allowing anyone to send mail through it, the classic route to blacklisting and abuse.
- How authentication is enforced for sending and collecting mail.
- The TLS/encryption in use for connections, and whether credentials or messages could travel in the clear.
- Which mail ports and services are exposed, and whether any should not be.
- Configuration weaknesses that could be abused to spoof, spam or intercept.
A compromised or badly configured mail server does not just risk your own data — it can be turned into a spam cannon that damages your domain's reputation. The audit sets out what is exposed and what needs tightening.
