Using your report as evidence for the police or a solicitor

The report is structured to stand as evidence, which makes it suitable for onward legal or criminal action.

• For the police: if the emails involve threats, harassment, blackmail or fraud, take the report with you when you report the matter. It gives officers the true originating IP, location and timestamps — the concrete detail an investigation needs, rather than a sender name that can be faked.
• For a solicitor: in a civil dispute, defamation or harassment matter, the report provides an independent technical account of where a message really came from and whether it was forged.

Keep the original email safe and unaltered alongside the report; the two together form the evidence trail. We can only report on what the headers contain, but that evidence is exactly what the authorities need in order to compel a provider to identify the account behind an IP address.
